What decided it

The unresolved potential harm to a protected species (bats), which could not be addressed by conditions or a personal/temporary permission, tipped the balance against the scheme.

The substantial combined weight of the pitch need, lack of alternatives and personal circumstances benefits was outweighed by the harm to bats (a matter of great significance) together with the moderate harm to the Strategic Green Space.
