Main issues, as the Inspector framed them

  • the effect of the proposed lightwell adjacent to Oldridge Road on the character and appearance of the host property and the area

What decided it

The lightwell, as an essentially subterranean feature screened by boundary treatments consistent with the rest of the site and area, would have extremely limited visibility and no real effect on the wider street-scene, and the Oldridge Road elevation reads as a side elevation to which the detailed restrictions on front elevation lightwells do not apply.

The conservation of the conservation area as a heritage asset was given great weight, and the proposal was found to have a neutral effect on its significance, preserving its character and appearance.
