What decided it

The intrusive presence of the proposed access point and track would erode the character and appearance of the AONB landscape through the permanent loss of a section of mature protected hedgerow in a prominent position on the public bridleway, and this harm outweighed the limited benefits of improved access.

The limited benefits of improved vehicular access and ease of use for the appellants and bridleway users did not outweigh the great weight given to conserving and enhancing landscape and scenic beauty in AONBs, which have the highest status of protection in relation to these issues.
