Main issues, as the Inspector framed them
- The effect of the proposed development on the character and appearance of the area
What decided it
The siting of the proposed garage at the exposed extreme corner of the plot, exacerbated by its size and the site's prominent location, combined with the incongruous timber fencing treatment, would cause harmful incongruity to the characteristically open street scene.
The private benefits to the appellant (child safety, vehicle security, Christmas light display) and local support were outweighed by the harm to character and appearance of the area.
