What decided it

The approved fallback position (planning permission for a roof extension retaining hipped form but increasing ridge height) was given significant weight, demonstrating that some disruption to the streetscene's uniformity was already accepted, making the proposed gable extension acceptable.

The limited harm to the symmetry of the semi-detached pair and potential terracing effect was outweighed by the existence of roof form variations in the streetscene, the stepped siting of properties, and the significant weight given to the approved fallback scheme which would cause similar disruption.
