The benefits of replacing an outdated phone box with a modern hub providing ultrafast wifi, device charging, public messaging and emergency call facilities, together with local wayfinding and support for business vitality, were balanced against concerns about visual impact and public safety; the benefits outweighed the concerns given the modest scale and appropriate design controls.
