Appeal A was dismissed due to the considerable collective harm to character and appearance caused by the steel framed structure and inappropriate fenestration, whereas Appeal B was allowed because the omission of the steel structure and the use of appropriately designed timber-framed windows with vertical bars on number 54 preserved the conservation area's character.
