The large expanses of glazing, absence of traditional forms of glazing and frame sub-division, and thick square box-profile aluminium window frames created an unsympathetic element that failed to preserve the character or appearance of the conservation area, whereas the metal railings reinstatement would be consistent with the prevailing character of Betterton Street.
