The significant contribution to renewable energy generation over the 50-year operational lifetime, combined with substantial biodiversity benefits and economic gains, outweighed the less than substantial heritage harm and moderate landscape effects.

For the drilling/testing phase, the public benefits from biodiversity gains, geological data, and limited economic benefits outweighed the temporary harm to character and heritage assets. For the operational phase, the significant renewable energy benefits and economic gains, supported by NPPF policy on renewable energy, outweighed the less than substantial harm to heritage assets and moderate harm to character and appearance.
