The internally illuminated projecting sign with its thick, bulky profile would appear harsh, modern and strident in its local context, at significant odds with the prevailing forms of sympathetic illumination and modest-scale signage characteristic of the Harpenden Conservation Area, and this harm cannot be adequately mitigated by conditions.
