Main issues, as the Inspector framed them
- the effect of the proposed development upon the character and appearance of the host property and the surrounding area
What decided it
The proposed gabled extension would result in loss of symmetry and the first-floor gap that contributes to the character of the cul-de-sac, and would be out of character with the existing house and adjoining property.
The mobility needs of the appellant's wife were accorded limited weight and were outweighed by the permanent harm to the character and appearance of the building and area, particularly as the needs could be met by a less harmful form of development.
