Where it comes from
- Appeal decisions and letters: the Planning Inspectorate’s published casework and its Appeals Casework Database, Open Government Licence v3.0, personal data redacted at source.
- Local plan milestones and hearing dates: the Inspectorate’s local plan monitoring register on GOV.UK.
- Plan documents and stages: the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government’s planning data platform, alongside the Housing Delivery Test measurement.
- Constraints: the Environment Agency, Natural England, Historic England, the Office for National Statistics and Ordnance Survey, each read live from the publisher rather than from a copy.
- Transport: the national bus stop register and open timetable data, and National Rail service data, measured for each site.
How we treat it
- Empty over wrong. Where a letter does not state something, the field stays blank. Nothing is guessed to fill a gap.
- Dated, not just stated. Every finding carries the date of the decision it came from, and the position of a plan is shown against the date it was adopted.
- The record, not an opinion. We show what Inspectors decided and how an authority’s appeals have gone. We do not estimate the chances of a case. That judgement belongs to the professional.
- Checked against the source. Counts are cross-checked against the Inspectorate’s own database each quarter, and the search page states the same figures as this one because both read them live.
