The full-width box dormers stretching from parapet to parapet and rising to the ridge would convert the attractive pitched roof into a flat-roofed appearance, fundamentally altering the character of this unaltered pairing of properties and failing to accord with design guidance requiring proportionality and respect for existing roof form.
The national policy objective of sustainable and effective use of housing land and the appellant's aspiration to create a larger family unit did not outweigh the harm to character and appearance, particularly the impact on the street frontage.
