What decided it
The previous existence of a vehicular gate on the site, to which the Inspector gave substantial weight as establishing the principle of a gate, combined with the set-back position and design of the proposed gate meaning it would not appear substantially more imposing than the consented boundary treatment.
The limited harm to character and appearance from the gated development, outweighed by the established principle of a gate previously existing on the site and the neutral overall impact on the Conservation Area.
