What decided it

The high professional standard of the arboricultural documentation and the sufficiency of the recommended conditions to mitigate potential harm to the protected trees, combined with the fact that the trees had already tolerated the existing dwelling's proximity.

The potential harm to the protected trees was outweighed by the benefits of extending the house, provided that strict arboricultural conditions were imposed and complied with.
