What decided it

The cumulative effect of the roof alterations, dormers, and front gable would make the dwelling appear overly large and incongruous in the street scene, contrary to policies requiring development to be respectful and subservient to the original building and surrounding area.

The adverse impacts of allowing the development in terms of detraction from character and appearance would significantly and demonstrably outweigh the benefits of improving the quality of accommodation for the appellants and future residents and improving the housing stock and fluidity of the housing market.
