What decided it

The benefits of removing the discordant modern rooflights and reinstating the historic roof timbers, combined with the creation of a better-quality habitable space, outweighed the less than substantial harm to the building's architectural significance caused by the insertion of proportionate, traditionally-designed dormer windows.
