What decided it

The combination of substandard visibility splays, the shallow angle of vehicle entry/exit requiring drivers to look over their shoulders, the busy nature of Reading Road, and the need for large vehicles to cross both traffic lanes to exit created an unacceptable risk to highway safety that could not be justified by the scheme's benefits.
