Planning appeal decision
4 Glebe Road, Finchley, London, N3 2AX
described on the application form as, “To create a raised pitched roof all around the ground floor rear extension instead of part pitched and part flat. The ground floor extension has been built from a series of plans. A 6m rear extension was granted under 15/07689/PNH. The Delegated Report stated 'Prior Approval Not Required'. Work commenced and the extension was included in 19/5687/192. The continuous, pitched roofline is not only easier t o build and more effective for rain, but is also more aesthetically pleasing. It is unobtrusive to all neighbours and sits some 1.5m lower on the ground when compared to the ground level at the neighbouring Connections House

Main issues, as the Inspector framed them
- the effect of the development on the character and appearance of the area
- the living conditions of the occupiers of No 6, with particular regard to outlook, sense of enclosure, daylight, and sunlight
What decided it
The unacceptable and harmful effect of the disproportionately large extensions on both the character and appearance of the area and the living conditions of neighbouring occupiers, which together outweigh any private benefits.
