What decided it

The proposed extension would create an overbearing sense of enclosure adjacent to the neighbour's rear patio doors and outdoor living space, resulting in an unacceptable reduction in residential amenity that outweighs the benefit to the appellant's family.

The benefit of extra space to the appellant's family was outweighed by the unacceptable reduction in the quality of life for the neighbours.
