Main issues, as the Inspector framed them

  • The effect of the proposed development on the character and appearance of the area
  • The living conditions of the occupiers of No 548 Topsham Road, with particular regard to natural light and outlook

What decided it

The stepped link design with grey cladding, combined with the substantial set-back from the road and retention of generous garden space, would ensure the development was subservient to the host property and sympathetic to surrounding built form, while the positioning of the extension would not unacceptably harm the living conditions of the neighbouring property.
