Main issues, as the Inspector framed them
- Whether the external appearance of the building would be acceptable
What decided it
The principle of the permitted development right for upward extension of up to 2 storeys is established by the GPDO, and the external appearance of the sympathetically designed extension would be acceptable in this context despite its prominence.
The need to accept some degree of divergence in building relationships as an inevitable consequence of the permitted development right, balanced against the Government's objective to significantly boost housing supply and the Framework's recognition of the need for innovation, change and increased densities, outweighed any harm to local character.
