What decided it

The sympathetic design, materials, positioning and modest scale of the garage, combined with the enhancement of the boundary treatment, would preserve the character and appearance of the conservation area and the setting of the listed building.

The benefits of the proposal in terms of design quality and boundary enhancement outweighed any limited impact from the reduction in front garden openness and tree removal.
