What decided it

The effect of the proposed extension on character and appearance would not be significantly harmful, particularly given the appellant's decision to retain the original vernacular cottage and the appropriate visual separation and material contrast achieved through the design.

The very limited harm from the non-subservient scale of the extension relative to the host cottage was outweighed by the benefits of retaining the non-listed vernacular Fenland cottage and the overall compliance with design and character policies.
