What decided it

The extent of rearward projection and modern design of the extension, including extensive glazing, would not respond well to the original building's form and proportions and would appear as an overly prominent and unsympathetic addition when viewed from the open land to the south.

The arguments advanced by the appellant did not outweigh the harm to character and appearance and policy conflict, therefore the appeal did not succeed.
