What decided it

The rear dormer's substantial width and positioning near the ridge line created a visually dominant and discordant stepped appearance that significantly harmed the symmetry and character of the semi-detached pair, whereas the side/rear extension's simple modern design and complementary materials did not harm character and appearance.
