What decided it

The presence of similar roof remodellations and extensions on neighbouring properties in the street scene, combined with the subservient appearance of the extension when viewed from the front, meant the double pitched roof would not appear unduly prominent or jarring despite being slightly visually unfortunate in oblique views.
