Main issues, as the Inspector framed them
- The effect of the alleged unlawful developments on the character and appearance of the landscape features and local distinctiveness of the appeal site and the area in its vicinity, with particular regard to this area of woodland protected under the TPO
- Whether the development as a whole can be justified in terms of its location as a development for tourism
What decided it
The uses and structures have a neutral effect on the character and appearance of the woodland landscape and accord with development plan policies promoting tourism in rural areas where activities require a rural location and can be justified as appropriate to the countryside setting.
The recreational and community benefits of the archery and shooting facilities, combined with their neutral landscape impact and accordance with development plan tourism and countryside policies, outweighed any concerns about the uses, permitting the activities to continue with planning conditions controlling future development and limiting uses to forestry, archery and shooting.
