The proposed illuminated sign would fail to preserve the special interest of the Grade II listed building by introducing an unsympathetic, strident modern feature that would unacceptably diminish its prestige, stature, authenticity and historic integrity, and the claimed public benefits were insufficient to outweigh this harm.
